Convention and guideline review

Checks a change against the repository's written rules: style guides, AGENTS.md, architecture decisions, naming conventions.

Sub-techniques

  • Rule file review V1036.001

Apply the rules in AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md or CONTRIBUTING.md to the diff.

  • Naming and conciseness V1036.002

Flag unclear names, typos and needless code.

  • Rule-to-lint promotion V1036.003

Turn rules that can be matched syntactically into lint or Semgrep rules.

How to build it

  1. Keep rules in the repository in one file per scope.
  2. Promote any rule that a pattern can match into a lint rule.
  3. Leave the rest to a reviewer prompt that quotes the rule it applies.

Signals in a repository

  • AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, .cursor/rules or CONTRIBUTING.md with coding rules.
